Nesting, and why we pull it out rather than push it through

The quick way to deal with a blocked termination is to run a brush up from the inside and force the obstruction out through the hood. We do not do that, for two reasons. Nesting material compacted by a brush frequently jams tighter instead of clearing, and if it does clear it takes the damper flap with it - so you have traded a blockage for an opening that will be re-occupied by spring.

Instead we get to the termination, remove the hood, take the material out from the outside, and refit or replace the hood with a working flap. On a roof termination that is more work than the inside-out method, and it is priced accordingly, but it is the only version that stays fixed. Rural properties with outbuildings sometimes have two or three of these; doing them on one visit keeps the cost sensible.
